Why is the building called The LUX?

The lux (symbol: lx) is the SI unit of illuminance and luminous emittance, measuring luminous flux per unit area. Because the building was originally built to house Kansas Gas and Electric, The LUX was named accordingly as a homage to the original owners. The building is one of few structures in Wichita built on two power grids and great creativity was used in lighting throughout the building, since KG&E was not concerned with their own electric bill.

What parking is available?

The LUX, located in downtown Wichita at First St. and Market (First St. is a one-way street heading East. Market is a one-way street heading North.) has a variety of parking available. There is street parking - in some places it is free within 2 hour or 1 hour limits (between 8a-5p Mon-Fri). There is metered parking on the street near the building as well (between 8a-5p Mon-Fri). There is also a parking garage directly to the west of The LUX at First and Main with a $5 flat daily fee (cash and credit cards accepted). Can I rent out the Auditorium or Hospitality Room?

You may. The space is called CANDELA and is located on the first floor. Find out more about CANDELA.

How long is the term of the lease at The LUX?

Leases are signed for 12 months. If you need to lease for a shorter amount of time (6 month minimum) or need to extend beyond your lease on a month to month basis, there is an extra $100/month charge. If you have additional questions, please contact us.

What utilities are included in my lease?

At The LUX we offer free Wi-Fi, trash/recycling services and water. On average you will save $150–200 a month! Plus, there's no need for a gym membership. See a complete list of amenities.

Do you have cable services?

Yes, we are set-up with Cox Communications. Contact them to start your service.

Can I install a satellite dish?

No, you may not. Because we are a historical building, we have to abide by certain rules that don't allow us to add to the exterior of the building.

Is my security deposit totally refundable?

Yes, there is a $250 apartment refundable deposit, minus any charge for damages and/or cleaning.

If something needs to be repaired in my unit or the building, how do I report it?

When is rent due, what type of payment do you accept and is there a late fee?

We expect to see your rent payment by the 5th of the month. We accept check, electronic payment from your bank and credit cards. There is a drop box located in the mail room of the building. Please contact us to set electronic payment and payment by credit card. You are subject to a late fee on the 6th of the month.

I'm having a package delivered. Where do I pick it up?

You may pick up your packages in the mail room via designated drop boxes.

I have a guest that will be staying with me for a while, is that permitted?

Yes, up to two weeks. If you have children that will be living with you for an extended time period (summer break), please contact us and we will add their names to your lease.
